Today’s commission post comes courtesy of one of my editors, Meg! I knew that Clone High was a show, and lots of my friends loved it, but otherwise, I came into this as ignorant as ever. LET’S DO THIS.

- You know, I really didn’t need to see any other episode to explain this! That’s kind of rad. So, the US government cloned a bunch of historical figures for their own purposes, stuck them in a high school to raise them for some future use, and then didn’t take into account that American high school culture is a mess. Oh, and Principal Scudworth has his own ideas of what he wants to do with the students.
- Just right off the bat, Joan of Arc is probably my favorite character. Maybe Gandhi. I love that this show takes these very recognizable people, and then contrasts them with character traits that you’d never expect. Except JFK. Oh my god, he’s basically the same, isn’t he?
- Oh shit, I was just looking at the cast for this episode on IMDB, and Will Forte is Abe Lincoln!!! What the hell, I DIDN’T RECOGNIZE HIS VOICE AT ALL.
- I love that the show also paints JFK and Lincoln as total fools who will do anything for women, and then they never get what they want anyway.
- Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, and Zach Braff as the Blu-Goo promoters? Yes. YES, PLEASE.
- Oh god, I know that this is mostly a parody in multiple ways, but most high school students really don’t care for elections, so does that count as a parody?
- The entire Blu-Goo bit reminded me of those Powerthirst commercials that were popular like six years ago.
- But let’s just get to the best part of this episode: Marilyn Manson showing up to sing to the Clone High populace about the importance of the food pyramid. It is one of the most brilliant bits of satire and irony I’ve come across because it’s presented so casually. Oh my god, YES.
- Basically, this was a real good time.
