Mark Watches ‘The Golden Compass’ Liveblog!

Ok, despite that I’ve actually seen this movie and apparently erased most of it from my mind, I still think it’s a fitting end to having finished The Golden Compass over on Mark Reads. (FYI: READ THAT BOOK. HOLY SHIT.) So, as I continue into the second book of the His Dark Materials trilogy, let’s take a moment to find a few things to appreciate about this cinematic version of a fantastic book!

The Official Mark Does Stuff store is now live!

As you can see in the new menu up above, there is now a link to the new Mark Does Stuff store.

Here, you can purchase the first of many items to come: the Mark Reads Twilight eBook, currently available in ePub and PDF formats (good for the Nook, iBooks, Adobe Acrobat reader); the Kindle book will be added this weekend. This is a book of the reviews of the first book in the Twilight saga, adapted to a reading experience more accessible for an eBook. This means new parts, lots of new footnotes, entirely rewritten passages, and possibly 356% more fun!

This has been in the works for a while now. In the coming weeks, I will release the other three “books” for Twilight, then work through all seven Harry Potter books, and then begin adapting Mark Watches with an e-book per season. (Since seasons are shorter, the books will also probably be cheaper.)

If you are at all interested, please think about supporting me, as this will allow me to also begin to update the store shortly with actual merchandise. I cannot reveal exactly what will be sold, but I expect a lot of you to be pleased.

Additionally, I had mentioned that I wanted to start a newsletter to send out with updates for reviews, new books, new merch, important stuff you may have missed on my Tumblr, and other such announcements. If you have no interest in buying Mark Reads Twilight, you can just register at MarkDoesStuff.com, that will sign you up to be emailed from time to time! (I’m thinking once a week, probably on the weekends.)

This is a very exciting and HUGE time in my life. I’m happy to take the self-publishing route and I hope you’ll join me in this weird little experiment of mine.

For those of you who are Harry Potter fans, just a heads up that on Friday, July 15th, at 12:00pm, I will have my very own panel for Mark Reads Harry Potter at LeakyCon 2011. Yes, MY OWN PANEL AT A CONVENTION. (Somehow, I’m most excited for that.) If you’ll be at LeakyCon, I guarantee a ridiculous 50 minutes, full of a Q & A, story telling, five envelopes, and a surprise for every person who attends. I will be making announcements about a MRHP meet-up in Orlando shortly, organizing a collective viewing of Deathly Hallows: Part II, and other such shenanigans. Also, I HAVE TO GO TO DISNEYWORLD. I HAVE TO.

One last update: How does July 9th, 2011 sound for a morning liveblog of A Very Potter Sequel??? (Morning relative to the west coast, I mean.) THAT SOUNDS LIKE A PARTY RIGHT. A nice little digital send-off prior to the weekend that Deathly Hallows: Part II is released!

Anyway, thank you all for your hilariously inspiring support and the unending love you send my way. It’s entirely made this possible and I appreciate it so much. I hope to meet some of you in Orlando! Until then, happy Watching!
