Mark Watches ‘Steven Universe’: Season 2 Shorts

In the season two shorts of Steven Universe, EVERYTHING IS TOO CUTE FOR ME TO HANDLE. Intrigued? Then it’s time for Mark to watch Steven Universe.

I’m actually glad that I watched these because as silly as they are, I did learn a few new things. It got me thinking about how desperate I was to know EVERYTHING about this universe when I first started watching the show. I’m pleased that the writers have managed to keep up such an enjoyable pace while revealing things slowly. I never felt like I was being strung along and teased by the show, because I know many of you know why that is a frustrating thing to experience. IT SUCKS.

Of course, this would have been a great thing to watch first because all three of the Classroom Gems sequences summarize the three basic elements of gem mythology rather well. I got confirmation that gems grown on Earth suck out resources from the soil in order to be created, which explains why Gem harvesting is detrimental to the planet. And I think there was a fusion in the “Fusion” short that I haven’t seen yet??? WHICH IS VERY EXCITING! I couldn’t tell because all the examples flashed by so quickly.

I AM UTTERLY OBSESSED WITH THE FULL THEME SONG. BABY STEVEN. THE BANDAGE ON HIS CHEEK. I DIDN’T REALIZE THAT THE HOUSE WAS BUILT AROUND THE TEMPLE FOR STEVEN. I WISH I COULD WATCH THE FULL THREE-MINUTE VERSION EVERY TIME. IT WOULD BE PERFECT OH MY GOD.

“Lion Loves to Fit in a Box” and “Unboxing” are both incredibly adorable, too. I like that this show can poke fun at our world without it coming across as mean. They have fun with the idea of unboxing videos, but the best joke is that Steven continues to make the video when a gem creature attacks the home because… well, that’s Steven. It’s exactly what he would do. Are we gonna see the Hot Dog backpack at some point??? Also, I could watch Lion box videos forever, right alongside all my favorite Maru the cat videos.

If you’ve never seen any of the shorts, they are all available on YouTube as follows:

What Are Gems?
How Are Gems Made?
Special Lesson: Fusion
We Are the Crystal Gems
Lion Loves to Fit in a Box
Unboxing

My video for all six shorts can be downloaded here for $0.99.
