In the sixth episode of the second season of Princess Tutu, Ahiru learns her job is not finished, but is sidetracked when she gets wrapped in a tale of mistaken love. Intrigued? Then it’s time for Mark to watch Princess Tutu.
Once upon a time, there was a maiden in love. “I want to tell my beloved how I feel, but my love might be over the moment I confess it.” Every day she suffered, agonizing in this way. She took no meals, and even sleep evaded her. Eventually, she died without ever having been able to communicate her feelings. But the man she loved married another woman, and lived happily ever after, without even the slightest inkling that she had ever existed.
Oh my god, AN EPISODE THAT’S ONE GIANT LOVE LETTER TO A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM.Â
- Goddamn it, Drosselmeyer, STOP MAKING THIS WORSE. So, Ahiru found all the heart shards that were within other people’s hearts. There are more! THERE ARE MORE. Oh god, if they aren’t in people, WHERE THE HELL COULD THEY BE?
- Like, it is so ridiculous that Drosselmeyer immediately shows up in this episode to interfere in Ahiru’s mission. I can only guess that whatever that cloaked thing did at the end of “The Wandering Knight” was so serious that Drosselmeyer had to do what Edel normally does. He is trying to move the story forward in a way he wants. WHY? WHY DOES HE DO THIS? HOW? I DON’T GET IT YET.
- Oh god, Fakir, just be friends with Ahiru. There’s no need to be so tough with her! I ASSURE YOU, SHE’S AWESOME.
- You know, this episode really wasn’t as emotionally devastating as the rest of this season has been. It’s kind of adorable and touching! Like the Shakespeare play, this is a story about misunderstood love. Lilie mistakenly believes that Ahiru loves Fakir, and both Lysander and Hermia misunderstand how they feel about each other.
- I cannot believe that I sat there, staring at Ahiru as she tried to figure out who Bottom-san was, and I was equally as confused because who would be called that? And then it was literally what the name said it was. Get it? Ass = donkey = BOTTOM THE DONKEY FROM A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM. Dude, Mark, the episode title alone told you this. God, I am so dense sometimes. LOOK, IT HAPPENS. DON’T JUDGE ME.
- Oh god, Hermia is so goddamn adorable. SO CUTE.
- Lysander had such an intense Henry Rollins glare the first time we saw him.
- I’m still stumped as to what could possibly help Mytho purify his heart. We see him struggle with the raven’s blood within him in this episode, and more so than before, he’s been able to resist its effects, if temporarily. But… oh god, I can’t figure this out! Something or someone has to be able to get the raven’s blood out of his system. Is there a way it can be neutralized? Lord, I am so unprepared it hurts.
- And where does Kraehe fit in with this? She dances with Mytho, turning him back to his raven side, but… lord, this isn’t turning out well for her at all. Everyone except for Ahiru treats her terribly. Can I still hope for an Ahiru/Rue future? I WILL KEEP DOING IT. I DON’T CARE.
- I actually got super worried that Hermia would actually be sacrificed. But at the heart of this story is Hermia’s shyness and her inability to tell Lysander how she feels. Without this, her story would have been incomplete, and the parallels to A Midsummer Night’s Dream wouldn’t have been the same. That being said, I’m really worried that Mytho might succeed in the future. What would happen if that were the case? Would Mytho’s fate be doomed? I don’t like the thought of that. Again, I’m so lost in this regard. I can’t figure this out! And on top of that, I’m worried about Rue as well. Things can’t end well for her even if she does what her father wants.
- I’m such a huge fan of how Ahiru wins these battles. It is repetitive in nature, but it doesn’t bother me at all because she uses reason and positivity to convince these people not to give themselves over to Mytho or his heart shards. Here, she reminds Hermia of how devoting herself to someone limits her potential in life. The person she loves will never know how she feels if she just gives up like this, you know?
- And it’s through this that we get AN ACTUAL HAPPY ENDING. I almost couldn’t believe it! Hermia confesses her love to Lysander, who reveals that he made a STATUE OF HER. Oh my god, it is so adorable.
- I’ll take a happy episode amidst all the tragedy and sad. I DON’T CARE. Even Drosselmeyer couldn’t ruin this!
