Mark Watches ‘Doctor Who’ Liveblog: The God Complex

Oh, Doctor Who, you make my Saturday nights so much fun! Join the Mark Watches community as we flail and shriek at the newest episode of Doctor Who, “The God Complex.”

I hope that for series seven, we aren’t given an experience where it’s split in half because I want thirteen episodes in a row. It’s weird that the season will be over in two weeks! Then lots of waiting! Then Christmas-y stuff! Then more waiting! Still, there’s plenty of time to enjoy what we have, so let’s all liveblog “The God Complex”!

This liveblog starts relative to you. So if it is airing on your television, start liveblogging away in the comments. Same for if you happen to be watching it online by less-than-legal means. (Though I would just time it with another time zone so you can comment with other people!) We already do this with Fringe and it works rather nicely. To avoid seeing spoilery comments regarding the episode from past livebloggers, I merely stay on the first page of comments and comment away, only going back after it’s over in order to comment on what other people said.

Sound fine? Just make sure not to post spoilers before this episode airs.

Review goes up Monday, BSG season two finale goes up Tuesday, and a prediction post for season three of BSG goes up on Wednesday. See you tonight!

    WOOO **party**
Unfortunately I can't watch until tomorrow evening, gotta wait for iTunes 🙁

Random thought: We should totally have a Mark Rewatches Series 6 post or discussion or something. Because this season is really going to need it by the end.

  3. redletter_ says:

I was excited, but then I remembered that there's only two episodes left after this one D:

    Still, LIVEBLOG PARTY, WOOO.

    <img src="http://i53.tinypic.com/21nej2f.gif">

And now, since it's 1am and I'll be up up at 7am for this, BED TIME. I am so hardcore, gotta get my 8 hours man.

  4. Tauriel_ says:

Am I the only one who actually LIKES the split? I mean, instead of one looooooooong wait between the end of the series and the Christmas special, we only have two short ones, which are IMHO easier to bear. I like my Doctor Who more evenly spread out throughout the year…

    • xpanasonicyouthx says:

NO I AM A DOCTOR WHO HOG GIVE IT TO ME ALL AT ONCE

OM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM

      • psycicflower says:

I have an image in my head now of you gathering all the boxsets you can into your arms and trying to grab more.

But I agree, I prefer to have it all in one go rather than split across the year. I just don't like the short bursts when I'm used to the long ones. Heck the week off for the Eurovision is too much for me, kick ass mid series trailer or not. You expect more when DW comes back so you're only disappointed when it's on for a lot less than you'd thought. It feels like it just got back but it's already coming to a close.

      • Tauriel_ says:

        Bless you, Mark… 😀

      • Mia says:

If I give it to you ALL at once then your brain will explode and none of it will make sense. Let's take it one episode at a time, k?

    • Meenakshi says:

I also like the episodes spread out. But a little grumpy that after the Christmas Special we will have to wait until Autumn 2012 for series 7 to begin.

        Autumn 2012 for series 7

        AUTUMN 2012

WHAT!?! God dammit I must've missed that announcement 🙁

        • maccyAkaMatthew says:

No proper announcement as yet, just a lot of hints and fandom flailing.

They're filming the Christmas special now, but after that they won't start again until the spring, which obviously means no spring series. Best guess then, is autumn. There's a lot of speculation about how many we'll get then (with some vague and contradictory statements). Possibly, it'll be another 7/6 split with the last half airing in spring 2013, but the 2012 Christmas special rather confuses that, if it's still happening.

For definite, though, we're getting another 13-episode series, to start sometime in 2012. Exact details will follow nearer the time. Plus there are "big plans" for the 50th anniversary in 2013.

There have been no reasons given for the delay, but Moffat is very busy (although he has denied that Sherlock is the reason for the schedule change) and, probably more relevantly, they're changing a big chunk of the senior production team now and moving into the new BBC studios in Cardiff, so taking the time for that to go smoothly makes some sense. I also think they're moving Doctor Who fully into the autumn in time for the 50th Anniversary on November 23, 2013, which is a Saturday. That's just a guess on my part – but it makes me think that we'll get 13 episodes in 2012, just later in the year.

Of course this has been read as the series being cut or on the way to being cancelled or otherwise doomed – when there's nothing to suggest that's the case. But that's fandom for you…

          • FlameRaven says:

Yeah, there's no reason to cancel Doctor Who when it is pulling in so much money. I mean, go to a convention and look at the Who booth and all that merchandise.

I know that Sherlock has also been pushed back to early 2012 instead of this fall like we were expecting– although given that BOTH of the main actors in that show are busy filming The Hobbit, I am not surprised. And at least we have the movie to give us some Sherlock Holmes before it airs. (Still. I need a resolution to that cliffhanger! Although I deeply suspect Moffat will give us an even worse one in S2.)

  5. kartikeya200 says:

Random tidbit from the last episode:

Apparently there's a missing scene where, in the original version, when Rory, Amy, and old!Amy are all running for the TARDIS, one of the handbots gets their hand chopped off and then the hand starts crawling around on its own, a la Thing, to still try and get them. Moffat was all 'omg make sure that bit stays in!' because MOFFAT.

  6. t09yavors says:

      • t09yavors says:

  47. Afloam says:

Episode where Doctor saves the day with cheesemaking skills. Has to be done.

WAIT MORE IMPORTANT: TEA. IT'S HOW THE BRITISH DEAL WITH THINGS.

  48. But who's watching on the CCTV?

  50. Smudj says:

The Shining, combined with a boggart. 😀

  51. Afloam says:

…Worships. And praise him. The Gryphaes type thing is a mindfucky God thing. Aaalso, unwilling saying of things. Creepy. Like Midnight.

  52. Oh Doctor. That just means LOADS of people are going to die.

  53. NB2000 says:

"No one else dies today"…Team TARDIS are the only ones leaving aren't they?

    Ha. #11. How suiing.

  78. NB2000 says:

CLOISTER BELL! AAAAAH! WHAT IS IIIIT?!

  79. 11!

Is the Doctor in his own room for him to be scared of?

    • ldwy says:

I don't think there's anything in his room. I think he's most afraid of being alone. It's why he falls apart without companions, and always has one even though he feels so guilty about them. And the "Do Not Disturb" sign was part of it.

  80. Vikinhaw says:

No! What is in the Doctor's and Amy's room?!

  81. NB2000 says:

    Oh Rita *wibbles*

  82. Afloam says:

I really did like the idea of her as a companion.=<

  83. NB2000 says:

    Blimey, Doctor tantrum, that's new.

  84. Afloam says:

Also it still unsettles me that the dead are being watched by the creepy puppets.

  85. Afloam says:

Amy has faith in the Doctor. What does Rory have faith in?

    • Mark's Watcher says:

Nothing. It's why it showed him an exit, he doesn't have anything worth consuming.

    • That he looks really good in a centurion costume.

    • Monocle Claire says:

      Himself.

    • PK9 says:

I don't really like that development at all. Maybe Rory doesn't believe in God, fine. But even atheists believe in something. Rory might believe in Amy, or himself, or medicine, or science. If he believes in nothing, then he's not human.

      • @JacksAnnie says:

I think it's more about blind faith than simply faith. Everyone believes in something, but not everyone believes in one thing blindly, the way Amy does/did with the Doctor. Rory probably believes in many things, but he doesn't have one strong faith that he would cling to when faced with his worst fear. What the Doctor said was that the alien replaces their faith to be worshiped by them. That's why only those who believe very strongly in one specific thing are the targets, replacing several smaller faiths would be a lot more complicated.

  86. NB2000 says:

Oh okay it's not Moffat chasing them then.

Well shit, poor Amy. And Eleven, that knowledge had to hurt.

  87. Vikinhaw says:

Wait it can't be just Amy cause the Doctor has a room too. He didn't see an exist sign.

  88. But what was in Amy's room?

  89. Afloam says:

Rory has no faith in the Doctor. Which is sad. =< I mean, good for him for not dying, but-
    Shit.

  90. Afloam says:

AMY REMEMBER THAT THE DOCTOR HASN'T FOUND MELODY. LOSE FAITH. HE FORGOT YOU. AND HE WAS LATE.

  91. Oh. That's the room then.

  92. NB2000 says:

    AAAH AMELIA! omgno *cries*

  93. Smudj says:

theory from hubby: dead people being turned into puppets

  94. Amy and Rory are so not in the next episode.

  95. Afloam says:

He's saving her, but this is heartbreaking. Oh, the sads. =<

  96. Vikinhaw says:

no. It's Amy POND and Rory POND

  97. NB2000 says:

THERE'S JUST STUFF IN MY EYES OKAY!

Yeah Amy Williams just doesn't work at all.
