Mark Watches ‘Doctor Who’: Liveblog – Let’s Kill Hitler

MARK WATCHES DOCTOR WHO HAS RETURNED! And oh, how I have missed the Ponds and the Doctor. In celebration of such an event, it only stands that we must hold a liveblog party in honor! So get your computers and commenting fingers read, because Doctor Who is back!

oh god six weeks and six new episodes. I AM SO EXCITED. Also: Dear episode, please do not be full of Nazi-wank, even though I am kinda iffy about this episode in the first place? OH GOD. Shall we?

This liveblog starts relative to you. So if it is airing on your television, start liveblogging away in the comments. Same for if you happen to be watching it online by less-than-legal means. (Though I would just time it with another time zone so you can comment with other people!) We already do this with Fringe and it works rather nicely. To avoid seeing spoilery comments regarding the episode from past livebloggers, I merely stay on the first page of comments and comment away, only going back after it’s over in order to comment on what other people said.

Sound fine? Just make sure not to post spoilers before this episode airs.

As was tradition earlier this year, the review for this episode will go up on Monday afternoon. OH GOD I AM SO EXCITED.

OMFG Rose, Martha, DONNA! GUILT! OMG I can't take this episode. Is this the real life? I don't even know.

FIRST TIME ANY OF THEM BEING DIRECTLY REFERENCED IN THE MOFFAT SEASONS? I WAS THAT GIF.

      • xpanasonicyouthx says:

        ME TOO.

      • Openattheclose says:

I know it's just old stock footage, but seeing Donna on Doctor Who again and having the Doctor acknowledge his guilt about what happened was seriously my favorite thing about this episode or maybe even the series so far. When they showed Rose I literally sat up in bed and after they showed Martha I knew who was coming next. DONNA! I miss her so.

        • sporkaganza93 says:

YES! Me too! Donna is still my favorite companion! (Although lately Rory has been giving her some serious competition.)

        • __Jen__ says:

That really was one of my favorite parts and it's great that they directly addressed it.

      • taciturn1 says:

Actually, an image of Rose showed briefly in the headbutt scene of "The Lodger" and all three could be seen multiple times in the second "Meanwhile in the TARDIS" short clip (set between "Flesh & Stone" and "Vampires in Venice").

Wonderful episode by the way. 🙂

        • breesquared says:

ohhh right, well that clip was less direct and more 'LOOK AT ALL THE CHICKS' but I forgot about Rose in The Lodger.

  17. xpanasonicyouthx says:

THE ACADEMY OF THE QUESTION. WTF.

  19. breesquared says:

HOW MUCH FUN DID ALEX KINGSTON HAVE IN THIS EPISODE?
ALL THE FUN, THAT'S HOW MUCH.

Bit sad that the 'Mels' actress probably won't be around much now :[
Also… sorry but after seeing how Melody Pong = River Song was meant to be a big reveal (the scene was still exciting, but I did see it coming) as soon as there was a Mels blaming all bad things on the Doctor I kneeeeeeew.
Also sort of upset that she regenerated right into River… cos now there's no chance of seeing her after Alex Kingston decides to leave the show….

  20. xpanasonicyouthx says:

    THIS IS GENUINELY CREEPY.

  21. xpanasonicyouthx says:

    MY BRAIN IS FUCKING EXPLODING.

  22. xpanasonicyouthx says:

matt smith get all the awards

  23. xpanasonicyouthx says:

    NO GODDAMN WHISPERS.

  24. xpanasonicyouthx says:

    oh my god.

  25. xpanasonicyouthx says:

    the book. sobbing.

  26. PK9 says:

Of all the questions that got answered today, I think my favorite was "who taught River how to fly the TARDIS?"

    • breesquared says:

Which just springs another question, "Why won't the TARDIS teach the Doctor how to fly it properly?"
But then again she just takes him whereever she thinks he needs to go.

      • t09yavors says:

She probably has tried. I'm sure he just doesnt listen.

      • Tauriel_ says:

I think she doesn't want him to be able to fly her perfectly, because then she probably couldn't "overrule" his piloting and take him where he needed to be instead of where he wanted to go. I think she wants at least some form of control over their destinations – which is much easier with a rather inexpert pilot. 😉

  27. sporkaganza93 says:

I finally caught up with Doctor Who just in time for this episode! Yay! Now I can comment on this site without feeling weird.

    Anyway, can I just say?

RORY PUNCHED HITLER IN THE FACE.

This officially makes him cooler than CAPTAIN AMERICA, who has only pretended to do that.

AND THEN HE THREATENED HITLER AT GUNPOINT.

RORY YOU ARE MY FAVORITE FOREVER. <3

I am a straight male and I totally have a man crush.

EDIT: Oh, also, can I just say? This episode may have the most misleading title in the history of Doctor Who. Who would have thought that "Let's Kill Hitler" would not only have been a River Song origin story, but also have the Doctor SAVING Hitler's life?!

  28. sporkaganza93 says:

Oh, and is it just me, or did the whole "Academy of the Question" thing remind anyone else of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy?

  29. Randomcheeses says:

Rory Williams/Pond is now officially the coolest person in the universe.

  30. Randomly, did anyone else think that "Fit Nazi" mentioned in the Confidential wasn't that fit? Or maybe he was just fitter than all the other Nazis.

…can't actually believe I am wondering about the relative fitness of Nazis. :/

  31. ArrogantSage says:

So, River Song is 428, possibly 427…

  32. WaveMaker989 says:

As a very, very late after thought, I cannot be the only one who wishes that the Doctor would teach them how to switch guns with bananas, right?

  33. @Tonks07 says:

ALEX KINGSTON CONTINUES TO BE AWESOME AND SEXY!! It just looked like she was having so much fun in this episode.

  34. Xander Bazaar says:

I get the feeling that this episode was contrived to feel awkward and kinda… flat in the beginning (eg. Retconned Best Friend Ever [tm] for Amy; 'what the hell, let's kill Hitler.') It made the craziness beginning around 17:30 all the more glorious.

What are you doing there, Pachelbel's Canon. This is a Nazi event. You are a delightful Baroque composition. You do not belong there.

My brain is an autism party right now, but it's awesome because all the wonderful things were invited.

sadlkfgasd no more talking for me, I am not capable, this is wonderful and I am so unprepared for next week.

  35. VicarPants says:

Odd question here — if Amy had gotten an abortion or miscarried, would the foetus have regenerated? Into who/what? And would that all take place in the space of a womb? Can a child regenerate into an adult body, with their level of maturity/experience staying the same, or would their new personality come with new wisdom? Or would a TARDIS-baby have to be born/viable before regeneration becomes a Thing, at all?

These are the thoughts that keep me awake at night.

  36. JustAHufflepuff says:

    The ep's on TV nao.

    LITTLE RAWRY~!!!!! :DDDDDD

  37. JustAHufflepuff says:

    AMY STOP TALKING. DDDDDDDx

  38. JustAHufflepuff says:

You can see his heart breaking.

  39. JustAHufflepuff says:

    "Oh my god, Rory!"

    I love Karen Gillan. <3

    She shot the TARDIS. xDDDD

  40. JustAHufflepuff says:

"You will not die now. You will die in 32 minutes."

    "CUUUUUUSSSSTTTTAAAAARRRDDDDDD!!!"

  41. JustAHufflepuff says:

    "Thanking you."

  42. JustAHufflepuff says:

Why do all the tiny people have short hair?

  43. JustAHufflepuff says:

    The first question?

    "Doctor? Doctor who?"

  44. JustAHufflepuff says:

Karen can do a really good good "emotionless" face.

  45. JustAHufflepuff says:

What did River say in the Angels one?

"I was taught by the very best. It's a shame you were busy that day."

    Yes, he was busy DYING.
