Mark Watches ‘Supernatural’: Season 3 Predictions

Clearly, I should be entirely terrified of trying to predict this show because NOTHING COULD HAVE PREPARED ME FOR THE END OF SEASON 2. Alas, I shall attempt it again. And alas, I will probably fail.

Just in case folks missed it the first time around, let’s set some ground rules for these prediction posts!

1) Don’t spoil me. This seems like a moot point, but you would not believe how quickly folks think these posts allow for leeway in the rules. Don’t quote things I’ve said in plaintext and laugh at them or make any sort of hint as to whether I’m right or wrong. You are absolutely welcome to laugh me off the face of the planet in rot13 ONLY. I know it seems very strange that I’m asking you not to say anything whatsoever about my predictions, but I’d like to continue watching this show without any preconceptions in my mind.

2) Don’t spoil other people. There will be folks posting their own predictions for season 2 who are following along as newbies! The exact same rules apply to them, so please don’t ruin it for them.

3) Do not post fake predictions in order to inadvertently spoil people. I swear to y’all, people have done this. The mods will know in a heartbeat if you’ve done this, and your comment will be deleted. You risk suspension from commenting if you do. Don’t. Don’t.

Now, before I predict season 3, let’s recap my predictions for season 2:

Mark’s Predictions for Season 2 of Supernatural

  1. In the season premiere, John will be in a coma. WELL. WELL I TRIED. This basically means I’m at -100,000 points just at the start. Oh my god.
  2. He will remain in one for most of season 2, only to come out of it to WREAK VENGEANCE by the end of it. What is wrong with me? How could I be so wrong? -500,000
  3. We will meet other hunters! This is such a terrible, easy prediction, and I’m being hard on myself because of how not fair it is that I am so wrong about season two. No points awarded!
  4. There will be at least one episode dealing with vampires. I really want to see more of them! Shocking, I know, considering that I’m generally done with vampires as a concept, but I love the mythology for them in this show. Oh, damn it. This didn’t happen! I’m still sticking to this one, though. I’d love to see more.
  5. We will get an episode about werewolves. OH SHIT. I WAS RIGHT.
  6. We will get an episode about zombies. Oh shit, I wasn’t right!
  7. We will get an episode about astral projection. Damn it.
  8. I think there will be one Iron Maiden song in the official soundtrack because more Iron Maiden all of the time. DAMN IT THIS SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED. I was listening to Powerslave the other day. “Back to the Village” is so fun to play on guitar!
  9. We will discover why the yellow-eyed demon is going after kids with apparent supernatural abilities. And I’ll cry. A lot.
  10. We will discover the reason for the increase in possessions. Sort of? Kind of not really addressed?
  11. The antagonists for season 2 will be the yellow-eyed demon and one other major demon. Okay, does this technically count because of the Crossroads Demon? This isn’t what I meant, but it kind of fits. (Can you see how desperate I am to be right even once?)
  12. I think Dean will become drastically more intense about his desire to protect his family, so much so that it becomes an actual issue. LIKE IT WASN’T BEFORE. I fully acknowledge that I have no idea what I was trying to say here, so no points awarded for lack of coherency.
  13. Sam will finally stop wishing he wasn’t a hunter anymore, giving up the desire to return to a “normal” life. All I can think of is “What Is and What Should Never Be” and I want to collapse in a puddle of feelings.
  14. Dean will have to deal with killing another human again. This is more applicable for Sam, since he has to kill Madison in her human form, and because of the deaths surrounding him due to his Special-ness. So, nope.
  15. I think season 2 will end with a cliffhanger as well, except that it will involve the possible death of John Winchester. This doesn’t count if he has a confirmed death on the screen. I couldn’t have been more off the mark. It’s impossible.

So I maybe got four right. MAYBE five. Regardless, if this were an exam, I would have failed miserably, and that’s all that matters. Plus, bonus negative points for being so wrong that it hurts my soul. Unfortunately, now I have to publicly embarrass myself again for season 3. D’OH.

Mark’s Predictions for Season 3 of Supernatural

  1. A great deal of this season will involve the Winchesters tracking down and fighting the demons released from the Devil’s Gate.
  2. Dean will spend most of the season being sad and manpain-y about his impending death.
  3. Sam will spend most of the season trying to find a way to release Dean from his deal with the Crossroads Demon.
  4. More Bobby!
  5. More Ellen!
  6. More Jo!
  7. An episode with vampires!
  8. Another meta episode!
  9. We won’t see John Winchester again.
  10. CAN WE HAVE BOBBY’S BACKSTORY PLEASE.
  11. I think we’ll see Dean pursue a love interest in some way, but it will be deliberately temporary, since he believes he’s going to die in a year.
  12. At least once, we’ll get a Winchester flashback scene. Bonus points if it’s a full episode!
  13. We’ll see Agent Henriksen again!
  14. We’ll also see one exorcism in the season.
  15. My prediction for the finale: Sam discovers a way to undo Dean’s deal, but in doing so, he basically takes it over or makes a deal of his own. Sorry not sorry, I just love role reversals a lot.

Oh gosh, onwards I go!
