In the seventh episode of the first session of Princess Tutu, Ahiru struggles with her role as Princess Tutu because of the pain she’s caused. Intrigued? Then it’s time for Mark to watch Princess Tutu.
NO WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING???
Y’all, I am left with so many ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY QUESTIONS THAT I NEED ANSWERED RIGHT NOW.
1) Who the fuck is Drosselmeyer?
Okay, yes I know who he is, but this episode gives me the idea that Drosselmeyer is not just a narrator. I’d previously been confused about his appearances and how that related to Ahiru’s agency. Was she choosing to become Princess Tutu each time, or was Drosselmeyer making her do this? He always popped up right before she converted, but he never made any sort of physical appearance. I was reminded of one of Edel’s more absurd gems that she had in “Dreaming Aurora,” the one called Author’s Convenience. Here, Drosselmeyer appears to act that out. As Ahiru ruminates on her purpose and decides, in despair, to give up the pendant that allows her to be Ahiru/Princess Tutu, DROSSELMEYER GETS MAD. Now it’s clear to me that he isn’t just narrating the story and speaking to the audience. HE IS WATCHING THIS ALL UNFOLD. What the fuck, did he write this? Is that why he’s so upset or daunting whenever the story veers off track? Like, the dude is so distraught over Ahiru giving up that he uses a clock to stop time and access Ahiru’s world, begging her to continue on. Even stranger? He keeps mentioning/hinting at the idea that suffering and drama BRING HIM JOY. What the fuck, why does he keep saying that? Does he derive enjoyment from the constant emotional twists and turns that these people experience? Jesus, does that mean all of you are my own personal Drosselmeyer? NEW HEADCANON.
Oh my god, I don’t get it. Yet. But I am most certainly so onboard with this show that I can’t wait to find out more.
2) What is up with the animals?
Okay, I am guessing that Cat-sensei has his own fairy tale style story attached to him. I say this because it is the only way I can come up with an explanation for why he keeps talking about marrying Ahiru. I refuse to believe that this is just some random thing meant to be funny. (That being said, I think it would be kind of funny if it wasn’t ever explained.) Not only that, but a chihuahua randomly appears in this episode, too, talking to a group of boys in uniforms similar to what Fakir normally wears. WHY? WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE ANIMAL THINGS? WHY? I NEED TO KNOW MORE!
3) WHO THE FUCK IS RUE? WHO? WHAT JUST HAPPENED????
OH MY GOD. OH MY GOD, WHAT THE HELL. Has Rue been the Raven the entire time? No, everyone, you don’t understand. Wait, actually, you do??? I can’t believe I spent the last Princess Tutu review talking about how this show hasn’t broken a pattern and THEN THIS HAPPENS.
I need to know how this works. So does that mean Rue is really a crow and through the use of a pendant, she becomes Rue who becomes Princess Kraehe??? ARE RUE AND AHIRU LIVING THESE STRANGE PARALLEL LIVES? And how come there’s a moment where Princess Kraehe doesn’t know who she is? This doesn’t seem to be like Ahiru’s experience because Ahiru is aware of all three forms of her being. WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON. Why did Kraehe take the heart shard, and what the hell is she going to do with it?
Y’all, this show is seriously going to destroy me. Right when Mytho outright confirms that he wants his heart back, PRINCESS KRAEHE STEALS A HEART SHARD. Oh hell, how is Rue going to deal with this? Is she going to remember what happened? Why is Drosselmeyer so happy with the outcome of the story?
My god, I have too many questions. UGH!
