Ah, I am quite satisfied with life because Fringe is back on our television sets. Did you know that ratings went up in the best demographic and this is wonderful and exciting? Let’s help keep this wondrous show on the air by liveblogging this week’s episode. OH, FRINGE, WHAT WONDERS DO YOU HIDE.

This liveblog will work in relative to when the episode airs for you. So, you may begin your livebloggy commenting down below when the episode starts. To avoid spoilers, I stick to the first page and comment away, and then go back afterwards to add any more

DO. NOT. POST. SPOILERS. This community is not the place for that. You have the rest of the fucking Internet. Go there.

  4. __Jen__ says:

Oh no! What's going to happen to him without those memories? 🙁

  5. monkeybutter says:

    Uh, what.

  6. monkeybutter says:

    Oh crap.

  7. psycicflower says:

    His memories were extracted? BRRRMMM

  8. monkeybutter says:

    Okay, that's better.

  9. monkeybutter says:

    Peter

  10. __Jen__ says:

Theme I see you now. It's so obvious after the fact. 😀

  11. psycicflower says:

  12. carma_bee says:

"an imprint that can never be erased" :')

  18. Kate says:

Did anyone just catch Peter in the background as Olivia and Broyles were walking down the hospital hallway? Anyone have a screen cap?

    • knut_knut says:

REALLY?! I completely missed it! Was he reflected in something?

      • Kate says:

Pretty sure he was in the background (out of focus?) right as Broyles was saying his line about people leaving an indelible mark on your soul. I'm not positive since it was pretty quick – hoping someone might have grabbed a screen cap!

    • katherinemh says:

Was that Peter or was that just the Observer? I thought it was just the Observer appearance of the episode.

  19. carma_bee says:

The last letter is an S btw

  20. monkeybutter says:

So it was LIMBUS. I stand corrected!

  21. knut_knut says:

what was Kennedy up to this episode?

  22. @chuckLiving says:

OH MAN that preview of next week.

  23. monkeybutter says:

    AH SUBCONSCIOUS MEMORIES OF PETER!

  24. monkeybutter says:

Fun as always everyone! Can't wait until next week!

  25. Shiroikami says:

So… are we allowed to talk about the ENORMOUS PLOT HOLES that now exist because Peter doesn't? Like HOW DID OLIVIA GET BACK FROM THE OTHER UNIVERSE? In related questions, Other-Broyles is still alive and FauxLivia is still with Frank because Olivia didn't escape from the Other Side? Now see question 1.

Fun new word for the week: limbus – the border or edge of something, especially where the sclera and the cornea meet, also known as the corner of your eye. Where Peter is now apparently hiding…

    • anne says:

how are they plot holes though? things just happened in a different way without peter and the show will reveal in which ways the important parts did happen, like it's been doing so far.

      • Shiroikami says:

I call them "plot holes" because without Peter they shouldn't have happened at all. Well, not so much the Other-Broyles being alive and Fauxlivia still being with Frank thing, mostly the Olivia escaping from the Other Side/Olivia being kidnapped by the Other Side in the first place thing.

Think about it – Olivia only managed to escape from the Other Side because she remembered Peter. Because the memories of him kept her strong enough to break through the false memories. Now, assume that Peter never existed, and that Olivia wasn't placed into Fauxlivia's life. In that case, where was she being kept? Probably in that dark, locked room, or in a maximum security holding facility. So how did she escape?

Now, recall why Fauxlivia ended her mission on our side. It was because Peter realized that she wasn't the real Olivia. So why did she end it this time? Walter is too crazy to realize the difference, Broyles is too absent, and while Astrid is good, I think that Olivia is a solitary enough person (without Peter) that any quirks would have been brushed off. Also, if she ended the mission on her terms, without them knowing the difference, why did the Other Side let our Olivia go free and NOT kill her. They were even planning to do that when Peter DID exist. And it probably would have been easier if she'd been held captive too. Just slip something into her food or whatever. Because there wouldn't have been any talk of crossing over or cortexiphan (sp?), so the one geeky scientist (whose name I can never seem to remember if he has one) wouldn't have cared about dissecting Olivia.

(see also – my comment on the third comment)

I do HOPE that all the things that don't make sense right now are explained in reasonable fashion later on… actually, I just hope that Peter comes back really really soon (stop ignoring him, Walter!!!) so that things don't have to be explained. I'll be happy with that, mostly, except in the very back of my mind where I keep wondering how exactly they believed things happened without Peter… which will slowly drive me mad, because that's what this show does. 😀

        • SecretGirl127 says:

You covered the issues I was having and a ton more, causing a ton more! Can't wait for more Fringe!

    • @chuckLiving says:

according to wikipedia: Limbo (Latin limbus, edge or boundary, referring to the "edge" of Hell)

      multiple meanings.

      • Shiroikami says:

But the word wasn't "limbo", it was "limbus". Wikipedia isn't a very reliable source, and doesn't actually have the definition of "limbus", I looked. Here, http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/limbus is a better source because, you know, it's a dictionary.

But yes, "limbo" does originate from the Latin word "limbus", so the two words are related. But it's "limbo" that refers to the edge of Hell, not "limbus". "Limbus" is the border of ANYTHING… in Latin (which is a stupid language and I wish I'd never had to learn it -.-), just in today's language it means the edge of the eye.

    • psycicflower says:

I'm assuming things didn't go down the exact same route only minus Peter. The universe changes seem to be a lot deeper than that. I mean our verse were the ones to go over to the other side to rescue Peter originally but by the sounds of it this time it was the alt!verse who came over here and kidnapped Olivia so Fauxlivia could take over her life to get machine parts so I'm assuming there wasn't any kind of switch with false memories this time around and Olivia just plain old escaped because she's a bad ass that way. And if I'm remembering correctly from the episode it only lasted 2 weeks.

      • Shiroikami says:

Oh, yes, I agree that obviously things would have had to happen differently without Peter. They clearly did. And yes, I agree that it sounds like the Other Side were the ones to come here and do some kidnapping… but why? What would have been the motivation for Walternate to come over here in the first place, if Peter never existed? Because, as I recall, Walternate's war with our side only came about because Walter kidnapped Peter over here, and young Olivia, unknowingly, went Over There and told Walternate that Peter was here.

But if Peter never existed, then he was never kidnapped, and if he was never kidnapped, then the Other Side definitely wouldn't have known about our universe and possibly wouldn't have started falling apart, and would therefore have no motivation to send Fauxlivia over here to replace our Olivia. Remember too, that even with Peter, the Other Side didn't have the technology to let humans pass (safely) between worlds either. They could only send the shape shifters through.

Maybe I'm just over thinking things, but the more I think about things, the less they make sense without Peter…

        • psycicflower says:

I don't think it's that Peter never existed but that he died as a child, hence the whole they must never know the boy became a man that one of the Observers said. Equally Walter talked about how people die and sometimes they even die twice, which implies to me that he still had some kind of involvement with the other sides Peter, just this time he died, probably when September intervened and saved them.

How Walternate found out about it I don't know, maybe he figured it out when all the problems started happening in his universe, but Olivia was kidnapped so Fauxlivia could get the pieces of the machine that were in our universe, as to how the whole machine thing works without Peter I have no idea.

          • Shiroikami says:

"Peter died as a child" certainly does make some things make (slightly) more sense. Slightly.

It still doesn't explain why it was Olivia that they picked, or how the Other Side managed not one or two but a minimum of FOUR safe, human crossings (Olivia there, Fauxlivia here, Fauxlivia there, Olivia here – this assumes that either shape shifters did the kidnapping or that it was done by the here-to-there technique which replaces the mass of the one being transferred with an equivalent mass from the Other Side, and that no other humans made the crossing at either time). There was no guarantee that our Olivia had anything like the same kind of life as Fauxlivia, so then, why kidnap her?

Fringe makes my head spin and my brain twist… WHY DO THEY DO THIS TO US?!?

    • Openattheclose says:

Maybe Peter's existence somehow prevented her from killing her stepfather?

      • @glyneth says:

Remember young!Peter met young!Olivia at the cortexiphan center and he kinda helped her tell someone about her stepfather. Only, it was Walternate, in the main timeline. Well if she didn't have Peter there . . .

  93. Openattheclose says:

I's official, while Peter's in the void, I'm shipping Our Olivia with Their Lee.

Although I wouldn't want an angsty love triangle when Peter returns. Maybe I should rethink this.
