Mark Watches ‘Fringe’ Liveblog: Season Three Finale – The Day We Died

I am both ecstatic and saddened that we’re reaching the end of the fantastic third season of Fringe, which was easily better than those that came before it. Still, while we have season four to look forward to, let’s focus on our utter unpreparedness. Given the shocking and confusing final sixty seconds of “The Last Same Weiss,” I think it’s safe to say that not a single one of us knew that THIS is what the finale would be about. Intrigued? Then let’s all blog our hearts out to the season three finale of Fringe.

I’m using an image from the season one finale so that those who wish to go into this episode completely ignorant can. I know some of you did not watch the trailer for tomorrow’s finale and I don’t want to spoil you!

Because we are all on the exact same ground this time around, our spoiler policy for these blogs will be completely different. Anything that has aired in the past is fair game for discussion. Anything that has not publicly aired WILL BE CONSIDERED A SPOILER.

This liveblog will work in relative to when the episode airs for you. So, you may begin your livebloggy commenting down below when the episode starts. To avoid spoilers, I stick to the first page and comment away, and then go back afterwards to add any more

DO. NOT. POST. SPOILERS. This community is not the place for that. You have the rest of the fucking Internet. Go there.

As usual, the review for “The Day We Died” will go up on Saturday afternoon. And then no more Fringe until the fall. omg the tragedy 🙁 🙁 🙁

I'm not even going to try and prepare for this, I have the feeling it's impossible to be prepared for this.

Can't wait though, it's going to be epic 😀

  2. Hotaru_hime says:

My head is probably going to explode!
And I'll be able to liveblog with you, Mark, so you won't be the only commenter this time!

  3. VictoriaLeigh says:

Maaaan, I am going to be doing important grown-up things, so I will miss the live blog. Confound it all.

  4. psycicflower says:

Okay Fringe here's the deal, I know you're going to break me in some way tonight because that's just how you roll but I'm doing a lot of college work for a module I dislike immensely, I'm unbelievably stressed about said college work, I managed to catch a stomach bug on top of it all and I'm pretty sure another show is going to attempt to break my heart as well so can you please not crush my soul tonight? Or at least not too badly? Please?

Who am I kidding we're all unprepared and doomed.

Mark I was watching Stephen Colbert the other day and when part of his opening was 'Ayn Rand's 'Atlas Shrugged' comes to the big screen. I hope it's in 3-D so you can feel the narcissism coming right at you.' I instantly thought of you and your hatred for Ayn Rand.

  6. ETullius says:

I can actually liveblog tonight! I can't wait, but at the same time, I don't actually want it to be over for the next few months. How will I survive the summer?!

  7. rabbitape says:

Ok, I'm already on shaky ground here, because the cupcake joint down the street was out of my favorite cupcake. (The Elvis, if you must know.) I'm stuck here with red velvet and cotton candy (???) cupcakes, and no chocolate in sight.

    I am not prepared.

  8. monkeybutter says:

I know my watching doesn't make a difference in the ratings because Nielsen wouldn't bother with me, but I really enjoyed watching the second half of this season in real time in hopes that it Fringe would be renewed, and I felt a sort of satisfaction when it was. This liveblog made it a million times more fun — commentary without talking over Anna Torv's Nimoy impression.

Anyway, I can't believe the finale is about to start. Whee!

  10. ETullius says:

    It's STARTING!

  11. carma_bee says:

omg I knew they straightened her hair, but it still looks so different

  12. ETullius says:

    Ooh, Astrid has straight hair!

  13. rabbitape says:

    Astrid, your hair!

  14. monkeybutter says:

    Astrid's hair!

  15. __Jen__ says:

    Astrid's hair! :O

  16. monkeybutter says:

Wow, they have their own mediacl center,

  17. knut_knut says:

WHAT is Astrid's hair? I hate the future already

  18. carma_bee says:

    aw grown up Ella!

  19. __Jen__ says:

    2026! Barcodes DUNHAM? :O :O :O

  20. ETullius says:

    Aww, Peter/Olivia love.

  21. rabbitape says:

    Olivia is wearing WHAT?

  22. ETullius says:

Peter's receding hairline is freaking me out.

  23. monkeybutter says:

    Cute, you two.

  24. knut_knut says:

    Wormtongue? Is that you?

  25. monkeybutter says:

People named Moreau are always up to no good.

  26. carma_bee says:

poor guy, he just wanted to see some opera

  27. rabbitape says:

It's Wormtongue! And…he was also what's his name, from Dune.

  28. __Jen__ says:

WTF is up with this episode. My mind, it is boggled.

  29. rabbitape says:

  30. monkeybutter says:

    Purpley grey?

  31. ETullius says:

Ooh, new colors for the intro… EVERYTHING MEANS SOMETHING.

  32. rabbitape says:

It's good to know there are still sweet Sprint phones in the future.

  33. rabbitape says:

p.s. Future Olivia's big-ish hair is freaking me out a little. (Compared to her usual non-style, I mean.)

    • knut_knut says:

I know!!! Everyone's hair is horrible in the future 🙁

    • monkeybutter says:

From watching the news, I think the rule for middle-aged women is big-ole helmet hair. Astrid and Olivia seem to be adhering to that trend :/

      • knut_knut says:

I can't wait until I'm middle aged. My hair is naturally huge now so it'll probably block out the sun

  34. monkeybutter says:

Astrid's a lot more active, I love the future! Aside from the world-ending stuff.

  35. __Jen__ says:

  36. carma_bee says:

omg why is he in jail? 🙁

  37. ETullius says:

  38. katherinemh says:

    N is the first glyph.

  39. monkeybutter says:

The first letter was N, right?

  40. rabbitape says:

Awww, they still heart each other.

  41. monkeybutter says:

    The sun is burning out?

  42. __Jen__ says:

    Time wormholes! AWESOME.

  43. ETullius says:

Dinosaurs in Fringe? Is this like the weird polar bear in Lost?

  44. rabbitape says:

Your old self, Walter? And asking about Olivia. So much sad.

  45. ETullius says:

  46. rabbitape says:

    SENATOR! Oh, Fringe.

  47. __Jen__ says:

My 9 pm Friday shows are melding. Like the universes?

  48. monkeybutter says:

The tenth Doctor is up to no good, I see.

  49. rabbitape says:

    Jeez, that eye.

  50. knut_knut says:

Broyles' eye reminds me of Professor Screweyes from We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story o_O

  51. monkeybutter says:

Shit Broyles, you know Walter isn't evil. Let him help!

  52. __Jen__ says:

Oh no. 🙁 🙁 🙁 Are they blaming Walter for the initial rift, or something even bigger?

  53. monkeybutter says:

Forget about patching the wormholes, we have to fix the deficit! Argle Bargle!

  54. ETullius says:

He remembered her name! <3 Astrid

  55. carma_bee says:

aw I want to know what happened to Gene 🙁

  56. monkeybutter says:

No windows for you, Walter. 🙁

  57. __Jen__ says:

    She spread her wings. ;_;

  58. monkeybutter says:

d'aww, I love swivel chairs, too, Walter! He's like a little kid.

  59. __Jen__ says:

I love their little family so much.

  60. ETullius says:

  61. monkeybutter says:

Aww, they had a daughter after all!

  62. monkeybutter says:

    WOW. Way to go Olivia!!

  63. rabbitape says:

    Sweet telekinesis, Olivia.

  64. __Jen__ says:

FUCK YES CORTEXIPHAN POWERS. They are one of my favorite things.

  65. knut_knut says:

it kind of looks like that 🙁

    • rabbitape says:

Right after I posted, I thought "no, that was dumb" and deleted my comment. Oops!

I should make up something way cooler, so it looks like we were talking about something awesome.

  66. monkeybutter says:

Walternate is running things!! Of course.

  67. ETullius says:

  68. monkeybutter says:

I imagine he has to stay hidden, if everyone blames Walter.

  69. rabbitape says:

Ok, Fringe, let's get rolling with some explanations!

  70. monkeybutter says:

Is it just me, or is Olivia sort of strawberry blonde?

  71. monkeybutter says:

Yup, there goes any ambiguity about his character.

  72. monkeybutter says:

Is that Carter in the commercial?

edit: (imdb says yes, yes it is. I love you, Carter.)

  73. monkeybutter says:

    Licorice for Walter!

  74. rabbitape says:

    Walter's favorite candy!

It's so interesting the emotional distance the writers are getting out of these small signifiers, just by how they set up where the principles are in the future.

  75. monkeybutter says:

So they do know he's over here.

  76. ETullius says:

Thank you for the explanation, Fringe writers.

  77. __Jen__ says:

  78. rabbitape says:

  79. monkeybutter says:

So he is in trouble for the initial rift. Poor Walter.

  80. ETullius says:

    Classy boxed wine, Liv.

  81. knut_knut says:

    SO SAD

  82. ETullius says:

I think they'd make pretty babies.

  83. monkeybutter says:

They don't want to have kids in this world. Katniss and Peeta?

  84. __Jen__ says:

    This whole thing is killing me. They're so domestic and want lots of babies in a better world. ;_________;

  85. rabbitape says:

Awwww! Sweet happy little Bishop family.

We're about due for it to all come crashing down soon…

  86. monkeybutter says:

Please, Peter, domestic terrorists love cabins in the woods.

  87. rabbitape says:

Good to know Peter still has his little secret-keeping habit. Healthy!

  88. ETullius says:

  89. monkeybutter says:

I love the hunk of amber in Central Park. That they're apparently going to blow up.

  90. katherinemh says:

I'm sorry, I am just really excited for this movie.

  91. monkeybutter says:

Senor Spielbergo sure loves him some aliens.

  92. cjazzle says:

the thing i love most about fringe is that it just throws you into a situation or alternate universe or THE FUTURE and doesn't just GIVE you the answers, you just have to wait until the details are revealed over time.

that being said, we're half way through! let's get to the season finale cliffhangers and stuff!

  93. katherinemh says:

I ship Astrid/That Guy That Sits In Front Of Her.

  94. rabbitape says:

Nothing's safer that going off on your own, with no cell service, to a probably dangerous remote location.

  95. ETullius says:

    Did Walternate's hair get whiter?

  96. monkeybutter says:

Oh, Walternate. You are not creepy at all.

  97. __Jen__ says:

John Noble, where is your Emmy?

  98. knut_knut says:

good lord, even Walternate's hair is weird

  99. katherinemh says:

Blue, red and yellow stripes on that blanket!

  100. monkeybutter says:

Walternate has old lady blue hair.
