Mark Watches ‘Doctor Who’ Liveblog: The Doctor’s Wife

A-ha! I remembered this time AND WordPress SHALL NOT EAT THIS POST. It’s time for us to come together ’round the world to liveblog the sixth series of Doctor Who. This fourth episode, written by the fabulous Neil Gaiman, is titled “The Doctor’s Wife,” which makes me want to pee my pants and punch myself in the face at the exact same time. LET’S DO THIS.

omg omg omg omg WE HAVE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT FOR SO LONG!

I won’t use an image from the show, for those who don’t want to be spoiled.

This liveblog starts relative to you. So if it is airing on your television, start liveblogging away in the comments. Same for if you happen to be watching it online by less-than-legal means. (Though I would just time it with another time zone so you can comment with other people!) We already do this with Fringe and it works rather nicely. To avoid seeing spoilery comments regarding the episode from past livebloggers, I merely stay on the first page of comments and comment away, only going back after it’s over in order to comment on what other people said.

Sound fine? Just make sure not to post spoilers before this episode airs.

SEE ALL OF YOU TOMORROW!!!!

This does weirdly mean that the TARDIS has now kissed the Doctor. Mmm. That should fuel some weird fanfic and drawings. I await them contently.

Doctor slapping himself is strangely fun.

"I'm a madman with a box WITHOUT A BOX!"

Even more fuel for TARDIS/Doctor fic, "Sexy." Also, if the junkyard is TARDIS stuff, WHY IS THERE A WASHING MACHINE. Do Timelords have lots of washing?

"I had a PE teacher just like you." ME TOO, RORY. CURSE PE TEACHERS. I USED TO CRY WHEN WE HAD TO DO FOOTBALL, I WAS SO FEEBLE AND WEAK AND I PREFERRED MUCHLY ENGLISH.

• Mia says:

Washing machine is a TARDIS that the chameleon thing never wore off of. 🙂 I had to look it up.

29. jackiep says:

"Did you wish really hard?" Ha ha ha!

30. Amazed says:

Haha, "Did you wish…REALLY hard?"

31. anninyn says:

TARDIS dying. The House is awful and I hate it. I am so anxious.

32. Claire says:

FOREST OMG

33. anninyn says:

There she goes. And I LOVE the dr being awesome
Outside you're massive but inside you're jsut SO SMALL.

34. chichichimaera says:

Beautiful beautiful special effects this episode. 😀

35. Sophi says:

eeeeeeeeee = basically the noise I have been making this whole episode

"Did you wish really hard?"

"Oh, shut up, not like that." ahahaha, writers <3

That looks quite like the Mastermind chair there… hm. My mind just constructed some strange alternate universe where they play Mastermind to escape and the Doctor's subject is Gallifrey. Perhaps I am more ill than I thought and am just going loopy. I can now smell Chinese food, I am probably just going bonkers.

36. anninyn says:

NO. I LOVE YOU HUMAN!TARDIS

37. Claire says:

CRYING ;____;

38. Claire says:

SDFSZDGDSDFSG STOP CRYING DOCTOR MY HEART CANNOT TAKE IT

39. Amazed says:

Matt Smith's lip tremble deserves its own comment. Here it is.

40. anninyn says:

OH, a bit teary here.

41. Openattheclose says:

Bunk beds! OMG!

42. jackiep says:

Tee Hee, "can we delete the bunk beds?" No wonder the pregnancy is uncertain!

43. Claire says:

omg all my happy tears

44. anninyn says:

That was brilliant. I always knew that the Tardis was 'alive' and she loved him and I have proof.. Now to go through and upvote awesome people!

45. NB2000 says:

Okay I decided not to liveblog, wanted to focus on watching it. I may be clinging to the toy TARDIS I keep on my desk rn.

NEIL GAIMAN PLEASE COME BACK AND WRITE MOAR EPISODES!

46. firinne says:

Thank you, Neil Gaiman, thank you!

47. Sophi says:

The effect for the TARDIS is absolutely beautiful, those prettyful glowing lights <3

The last few moments of House were kind of narmy but I care none, he had a beautiful gravelly voice.

"Alive. I'm…alive." And now I am tearing up, and I only just stopped having the cries from reading the third Pellinor book. And the Doctor is tearing up and that possibly just destroyed me guh and Amy ENDLESS SAD

"The only water in the forest is the river." Oh goodness now I really want to know what this means! Ugh and I expect we will not get payoff until I have randomly completely forgotten it and then it will sneak up on me.

THE DOCTOR LIKES BUNKBEDS! I SLEPT IN A BUNKBED FOR ABOUT TEN YEARS DOCTOR AND I HAD THINGS PINNED TO THE LADDER AND THE TOP HAD A SHELF WHICH WAS JUST RELICS AND WEIRD AND WONDERFUL THINGS THAT I FORGOT ABOUT FOR YEARS INCLUDING A RANDOM GLASS WITH RIBENA THAT HAD BEEN THERE FOR SO LONG IT DRIED UP AND A SOCK POPPET MADE OUT OF A REAL SOCK THAT I MADE WHEN I WAS SEVEN AND TOYS MY PARENTS PLAYED WITH THERE AND what I am saying is lots of caps lock but bunkbeds for life Doctor, I still miss mine even though the ladder was falling off and going up it was a terrible, life threatening experience and I always hit my head on the ceiling, every time, and I would discover random pairs of underpants underneath the covers that I genuinely did not remember putting there.

Now I am very nostalgic. I only lost my bunkbed in December, it has not been long.

• rumantic says:

BUNK BED APPRECIATION CAPSLOCK THREAD, Y/Y?

I miss my bunk bed. I had the whole of the top of my sister's wardrobe as a bedside table and it was always covered in books and random scraps of paper. And bowls. Which was precarious. We also had another set of bunk beds which we shared, they were the kind you can separate out into two beds, and we separated them and put them back together so many times that by the end the whole thing would sway each time the other one breathed. AND THIS WAS REASSURING EVEN THOUGH IT PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE BEEN TERRIFYING.

Also I think 99% of my first-ever Harry Potter reads (and subsequent rereads) happened on one or another of those three bunks ;_;

Haha, my sister reads Mark Watches too so I guess she'll see this. Hi! 😀

• Sophi says:

OH YES THIS IS BEAUTIFUL

I have a double bed now but it's just not the same, man. I used to curl up in the space between my bunkbed and wardrobe on top of a pile of stuffed toys and read. Aw, I bet I wouldn't fit now.

Aren't the ladders serious hazards? Mine would career about when you tried to climb it. I had stickers all over and old stuff everywhere–my best friend's mam works for Millenium, the company that makes the DW monsters and shiz, and I got to go once and run wild in the warehouse with her and I received some postcards of Eccleston that went up on my headboard. (I also tried on a fake pregnancy belly, hee, and found a freaky plastic baby!) And there was breeding ground underneath the bed, because my theory when it comes to cleaning up is SHOVE IT UNDER THE BED.

I wonder if there are any bunkbed gifs… THERE SHOULD BE.

Hi to your sister! *wave*

• rumantic says:

Yes I have a double bed now too. I often end up with various combinations of boyfriend/toddler/cat/various plastic trains in there with me so I suppose a bunk bed would be a bit cramped now.

Mine was right next to the window and when there was too much crap on the floor to put the ladder up I would just climb onto the windowsill and jump up into bed that way.

I want to buy my 2.5 year old a bunk bed with a slide 😀

• Sophi says:

Sounds fun :O I generally sleep with at least two stuffed toys and plural books. I frequently wake up on the books with a lovely imprint on my face.

My window leads to a flat roof. I was forbidden to go out as a child, and thus got stuck there quite often. I used to climb up my bunkbed by the back just for fun, and the entire thing would sway worryingly. Bunkbeds are really accidents waiting to happen, when you think about it.

:O!! If you do that and I turn up outside your window, do not be afraid. I will just want to monopolise the slide and trade bunkbed stories.

• redletter says:

Long time luker, now de-lurking to say OMG PELLINOR IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE THINGS.

Just wait till you read book four!

• ballpoint says:

agreed! I dont know too many people who've read them but they are amazing books!

• Sophi says:

Oooh I love them too, they are gorgeous books. I'm rereading them now. Sometimes I skip book three because it always has me in floods of tears but I figured I should this time, I owe it to Hem and his leap in character development

AND ZELIKA

AND JURIKEN and now I am tearing up already ;-;

• fluffix says:

I went up on a bunk bed for a sleepover one time. Someone else came up… aaaaand then the top bunk fell down onto the bottom bunk. Fucking scary.
Anway that's my bunk bed story.

• Mandi says:

"The only water in the forest is the river."
Anyone else thinking of River Song? And the Forest of the Dead?
Just me?

• travelinghobbit says:

House is Castor/Zeus from Tron:Legacy. Tru fax.

• t09yavorski says:

I sleep in a bunkbed whenever i go home for breaks. I hate hitting my head on the ceiling but the worst is when centipeads get into the house can crawl across the ceiling above my head. Other then that its fantastic.

48. EmmylovesWho says:

I loved that, really well played Neil Gaiman. Doctor/TARDIS remain the true OTP of this show. <3

49. @liliaeth says:

Doctor/TARDIS forever

50. kat says:

Jus some random thoughts! What a fun episode! Ha! The amount of Doctor/Tardis fanfics is gonna explode after this! The scene when the Doctor introduced the Tradis to Amy and Rory was hilarious XD!

A: "…did you wish really hard?"
T: "Hello, I'm Sexy."

And what does the mysterious "the only water in the forrest id the river" mean?.
Surely….the crackpot theory of River actually being a river can't be true…?
Also…the Doctor looks cute when he cries :D!

• Mandi says:

I'm thinking it is River, but Human!Tardis just speaks strangely. She did throughout the rest of the episode 🙂

51. Claire says:

oh god this is officially my favourite episode ever

52. leighzzz31 says:

Didn't liveblog but, oh my god, Neil Gaiman, I never raise my expectations too high with you! That was perfect, really perfect! And i'd be lying if i said I didn't tear up at least twice. And Nine/Ten's TARDIS CONTROLS! *sniffs*

(But, goddammit, Rory DIED AGAIN! NOT 100% REAL THIS TIME BUT I SAW IT! Poor guy cannot catch a break…XD)

53. Openattheclose says:

Doctor/TARDIS is the best ship in any universe.

54. anninyn says:

Watching confidential now.

55. chichichimaera says:

Doctor/TARDIS fanvid on Confidential making me :3 :3 :3

56. firinne says:

Love that Confidential has a montage of the Doctor and the Tardis to 'you sexy thing'!

57. @liliaeth says:

"I stole myself a Timelord"

58. chichichimaera says:

Neil Gaiman, please narrate ALL THE THINGS to me ever.

59. Sophi says:

Bunkbed fun aside, I adored this episode. I loved how it ran, how it fit together, how it looked and the music. It just all fit together like the most glorious puzzle. Last episode…it wasn't bad, but there was something weird about it that I couldn't quite figure out. Perhaps it was the timing, or the sudden reveals, I don't know, it just didn't quite sit with me.

This one ran lovely, though, with enough comedy and tense moments. Yay Neil Gaiman!

• enigmaticagentscully says:

I totally agree, it was a fantastic return to form after last week's…kind of 'meh' episode.

60. chichichimaera says:

Neil Gaiman TARDIS tour = awesome.

61. tehrevel says:

Brilliant episode, just one small thing I would have liked to see. They should have gone to Hartnells tardis console and when they were in it, it should have turned black and white with no explanation

• illusclaire says:

That would have been neat!

They'd have had to have passed through though, having that room deleted would have been a shame.

• anninyn says:

I mentioned I'd have lliked to see the control room they used being a 'classic' one- would have been a nice nod. Mind you, they still have 10's, so I guess it was eaier

• agrinningfool says:

Probably still had ten's control room laying about the shop and maybe they didn't want or couldn't afford to rebuild one of the older ones?

62. Steph says:

This was great. I wish Neil Gaiman could write all the non Moffat episodes

63. @SamCook69 says:

Best Episode EVER

64. anninyn says:

Oh look! It;'s A Quarry|!

65. Vicki_Louise says:

The Doctor and the TARDIS. MY BRAIN IS FULL OF FILTH RIGHT NOW. JSYK.

66. tehrevel says:

Did the patchwork bloke remind anyone of the Igors from Terry Pratchetts stuff? Other stuff I liked was the broken tardis junkyard being full of giant spaceships because their chameleon circuits are broken. Also the Tardis thinking of Rory as "the pretty one" was adorable, lucky the Doctor didn't tell him or he might have started dressing up and being coquettish in the control room.

67. jackiep says:

The Finnish Monster is really terrifying, but the Bosnian one was just odd.

68. TropeGirl says:

As an American temporarily living in Scotland, I should be really excited to be watching my very first (and probably last) Eurovision contest ever. But it just can't measure up to the ancient love story I just saw.

69. Minish says:

Guys, guys…

WE GOT TO SEE MORE OF THE TARDIS INTERIOR. Granted, it was the hallways and the archived Coral, but… progress!

AND DOCTOR/TARDIS OTP. Or is it Doctor/Sexy now?

Fantastic episode.

70. doesntsparkle says:

Not sure what I'm happier about, the confirmation of Doctor/Tardis or the triumphant return of Rory's Marty McFly vests.

71. echinodermata says:

I just finished watching. I'm not really coherent right now, so let's just say that, well, it filled me with warmth and pleasure.

I just want to draw hearts around the episode and hug it and I have collapsed on my bed in contentment.

72. Vicki_Louise says:

Can we officially call the TARDIS a character now? Hope so, i've always considered her as a character.
I <3 the TARDIS/Idris.

OMG guys! I'm rewatching it right now, when Idris burns up you can hear her whisper "i love you." Squee.
I am shipping The Doctor/The TARDIS/Idris pretty damn hard right now!

73. echinodermata says:

I expect many, many gorgeous graphics and gifs from the internet in the next couple days. Beautiful visuals, beautiful dialogue, beautiful acting all around. Get on that, internet.

(source)

74. Charli says:

……………..beautiful. Epic. Incredible.

There are only single word sentences to describe this episode. Loved it.

(ok that was a two word sentence, but still!)

75. echinodermata says:

Okay, I'm just randomly making posts now when I feel like it, but one thing I have have have to mention:

IT IS NOW CANON THAT A TIME LORD CAN BECOME A TIME LADY YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

• ArrogantSage says:

I shrieked when he said that. I was so excite to hear it said out loud by the Doctor. The door is now open for the Doctor to become a female. YES!

• VicarPants says:

I'm making my shortlist of actresses right now.

Judi Dench, Emma Thompson, Tilda Swinton, Cate Blanchett, Carey Mulligan…

• ArrogantSage says:

Emma Thompson would be SMASHING as the Doctor. She could pull it off without breaking her stride.

• FlameRaven says:

Yes, however– I also think it was implied that to do that you need to be good enough at regenerating to CONTROL your regeneration… and apparently the Doctor actually really sucks at regenerating. That's why he can't just be a ginger if he wants to.

I honestly don't think they'll change the Doctor to a woman, but it's nice that the option is apparently there.

• Tauriel_ says:

I wouldn't be so optimistic. I don't think they'll ever make Doctor female. And frankly, I wouldn't want them to. It would look weird and contrived and the sort of "we'll make him a female just because we can".

76. who_cares86 says:

I hated, hated, hated it. Come on this was terrible where the hell was eye-patch lady?

Just kidding. Doctor/TARDIS OTP

77. ArrogantSage says:

Me, every time I get a new episode of Who:
http://youtu.be/P3ALwKeSEYs

78. celestineangel1 says:

Random, but, I've discovered the "speech" function on my Mac, and it's hilarious. It recognizes certain netspeak. It reads "OMG" correctly as Oh My God" and it's even funnier if I have it set to read really fast. XD

79. enigmaticagentscully says:

Well, I've just come back from my Eurovision party! It's midnight, and I have to be up at 4am tomorrow to go to work!
So I should just go to bed and get a couple of hours rest…OH WHO AM I KIDDING DOCTOR WHO TIME BABY!
…it's possible I'm a little drunk. But in the finest traditions of one late to a liveblog party, I shall blog all in one post. LET'S GOOOOOO!

– Oooh this is very Burton-esque. I think it's just because the woman reminds me of HBC
– OOD! Who is…their nephew? eh?
– "I've got mail" I get that face whenever I get an email 😛
– OMG Ouroboros! It's like Scully's tattoo what is wrong with me this isn't The X Files
– NOOO don't use up the swimming pool!
– SHE STOLE THE TARDIS' SOUL. WHAT.
– "Your chin is hilarious!"
– ooooh creepy timelord message!
– Is it weird that I find the asteroid's voice kind of hot?
– Oh god they lure Timelords there? That's awful…
– Oh shit she's wearing his arm. The Doctor is gonna be SO PISSED. RUN!
– LOL the TARDIS is a ditzy bitey lady!
– "MY TARDIS?" "My doctor."
– Oh no, sexy voice is in the Tardis!
– Orangey girl! Bless you Tardis
– OMG WE ARE FINALLY SEEING MORE OF THE INSIDE OF THE TARDIS THIS IS SO EPIC.
– AND TERRIFYING. D:
– "She's a woman, and she's my Tardis." "Did you wish reallly hard?"
– FUCK YEAH TARDIS.
– :'(
– :'(
– :'(
– "The only water in a forest is a river" Reference to River Song y/y???

In conclusion…Doctor/Tardis OTP.

😀

• Meganne says:

sexy voice=Michael Sheen

• ShayzGirl says:

– "The only water in a forest is a river" Reference to River Song y/y???

Glad I wasn't the only one to think that. I was starting to think I was crazy or was just wearing my "I <3 River" glasses too much. haha.

• ThreeBooks says:

The moment I saw the episode title my mind just went "RiverRiverRiverRiverRiverRiverRiverRiverRiverRiverRiverRiverWhereIsMyRiver?" and then I realized they were talking about the TARDIS. Who is totes his wife.

…TARDIS/Doctor/River OTP.

• enigmaticagentscully says:

When reading that comment I instantly envisioned the sunglasses River was wearing at the beginning of 'The Time of Angels' 😛

• pjg says:

It most definitely is!! Silence in the Library where River dies (we think- no one ever really dies in science fiction) the books were "the forest" of the vashta nerada. And then there was the Forest of the Dead with the Weeping Angels and River got to show her BAMF self…. so intrigued to see how this plays out!!!

• samibear says:

I love this comment. I appluad the drunkeness.

Note to you: do drunken comments more often!!! 😀

• who_cares86 says:

"- OMG Ouroboros! It's like Scully's tattoo what is wrong with me this isn't The X Files"

No it's FullMetal Alchemist and The Corsair is a homunculus.

80. enigmaticagentscully says:

Although, now I have weird urge to make a fan video of the Doctor/TARDIS ship to the song that just won Eurovision…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgE3bDH647M

LISTEN TO IT AND TELL ME IT DOESN'T TOTALLY WORK.
oh gods I haven't slept in so long

81. echinodermata says:

I come bearing pictographic evidence that Gaiman seems to be right about the doors:

• prideofportree says:

Am I the only who thinking that REAL police boxes look … a little bit weird? Like, they're not in the right shade of blue, and too bulky, and… well, they actually the same size on the inside.

82. @toram23901 says:

Cool…OOD and more time lords…hope there are more time lords.

83. @toram23901 says:

Pity…no more time lords!

84. @toram23901 says:

It's Tim Burton styled…kind of cool though.

85. giishu says:

I AM SO HAPPY THEY EXPLAINED THE DOORS! Because every now and then the doors open to the outside (see season 5 opener for instance) and it was annoying me! 😀

This episode made me laugh (lots) and cry and was such great fun! I loved it! Doctor/TARDIS OTP! Come on! It's canon now! 😀

All in all, Neil Gaiman + Moffat = awesome. It's a fact now.

86. @toram23901 says:

Cool….timey wimey stuff…

87. @toram23901 says:

from within the TARDIS that is…

88. ToastofDoom says:

I just noticed Amy and Rory's wedding rings when they were hammering on the door for each other, and an "awwe" moment interrupted all the many other things I am feeling at this moment

89. @toram23901 says:

Why always pick on Rory though?

90. ToastofDoom says:

What mind fuckery is this!

91. ToastofDoom says:

Ten's Tardis!!!!! <3

92. @toram23901 says:
