Mark Watches ‘Doctor Who’: Blink Liveblog!

I really enjoy the atmosphere around liveblogs and I’ve been tossing around the idea of doing one for an episode of Doctor Who. The problem is that I tend to watch episodes on weeknights after work, and that’s a bad time for…well, THE REST OF THE WORLD. That’s why liveblogs these days are now on the weekends.

So I’m aware that a lot of you won’t be able to participate in this tonight and I’m sorry. We will do a larger Doctor Who liveblog in the future, but I know how special this episode is to a lot of fans, so I think it’ll be fun if we can all smash our keyboards for 45 minutes at the same time.

Tonight’s liveblog of “Blink” will start at 8:00pm PST. That’s 11:00pm on the east coast and FOUR AM IN LONDON. Jesus, I am sorry I swear.

So, we all start at 8:00pm PST exactly and treat the comments as our liveblogging space. Reply to other people, make your own comments about the episode, and make sure the lights aren’t off because I’ve heard this episode is TERRIFYING. Also, there are some of us who know NOTHING about this episode, so please don’t spoil anything!

Sounds good? Then off we go!

EDIT: Because it wasn’t clear enough, there will be a normal review of “Blink” posted tomorrow.

I always forget about the ending. Just ~seals~ the creepiness

  2. daisysparrow says:

Favorite. Episode. Ever. Of all time. Sally Sparrow is amazing, the music is beautifully creepy, and the plot is insane and wild and fantastic ๐Ÿ™‚ I'm so glad I got to do this live blog with so many other people who love it as well.

  3. darth_eowyn says:

I love how Moffat episodes are the scariest, but the fewest people die. "Just this once, everybody lives!"– but will never be able to look at a gas mask again.

  4. Meenalives says:

I really should go to bed now, but if I do I'll probably have nightmares, so I think I'll watch some Arrested Development.

  5. xghostproof says:

Also, something of a crossover with Supernatural, but my favourite gif of all time:

    <img src="http://i.imgur.com/st7go.gif">

it makes me smile waaay too much.

  6. doesntsparkle says:

I'm kind of sad that Sally Sparrow's a movie star now, I want her to come back.

    Good luck sleeping tonight, everybody.

  7. daisysparrow says:

    I'll just leave this here…. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXMxb5fn6Q8&fe

  8. echinodermata says:

Okay, so my body's all tensed up still from the drama of the episode and the thrill of keeping up with liveblogging

    • flamingpie says:

hahaha me too. I'm like… I should be sleeping so I can get up early and write my paper because that totally isn't happening tonight but NOPE TOO WIRED.

  9. Narcissaa says:

OMG I can't believe this liveblog is second only to AVPM for comments. IMMENSE.

  10. xghostproof says:

Man, this was fun, you guys.

I do a little bit of liveblogging on tumblr now and then, but this was supercrazyfun and I love you all.

Well, thanks for sharing your experience with us, Mark. Also, thanks for making it darn near impossible for any of us to get a good night of sleep!

  14. kerrimaryberry says:

I didn't realize Carey played Sally Sparrow until a few months ago. It was a big of a shock for me but a good one. she was utterly brilliant in An Education. she has a great career ahead of her.

Just got home from work. Hope everyone enjoyed the Liveblog goodness! Blink is the most flawless time travel story ever written amirite?

    • flamingpie says:

from the sheer AMOUNT of comments, I would say everyone enjoyed it thoroughly. XD

    • echinodermata says:

I cannot believe the term wibbly wobbly timey wimey has only existed for a few years. Just, such a perfect phrase.

  16. doesntsparkle says:

One more thing before I go to bed. This is based on a short story Moffet wrote in 2006. Here's the story, "What I did on My Christmas Holidays" by Sally Sparrow. http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/episodes/2007/blin

  17. Rattie Mattie says:

This was fun! Thanks, Mark! Have a good night! Sleep well, if you can!

  18. ShayzGirl says:

I'm not sleeping now. Nope. Not gonna sleep now. Well, at least I have Grey's Anatomy to watch. Or more Doctor Who. haha.

OKAY, SINCE I WAS BEATEN TO MY FAVORITE GIF EVER (I love you all, seriously <3), HAVE THIS INSTEAD.

    <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/Libertis/749px-WeepingAngel.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket">
THIS IS REAL. THIS IS A REAL THING. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH~

(dear lord I love the Weeping Angels)

      • arctic_hare says:

        OMG THOSE ARE BEAUTIFUL <3 <3 <3

(my comment in the proper review tomorrow is going to have so much Weeping Angel fangirling)

        (I am a freak)

        • pica_scribit says:

Edges of Twilight especially is one of my favourite albums, and has been since I was 16, which is now half my lifetime. This, despite the fact that the terms "twilight" and "tea party" have been utterly trashed for me now. *sigh* Tea Party were a Canadian band from the 90's that sounded like gothic rock had a baby with belly dance music, and the singer sounds like Jim Morrison.

          • arctic_hare says:

Oh yeah, I hear you on those terms. *deep sigh* I used to LOVE the word "twilight", I have to fight to keep the lovely mental images it always used to cover up, and that's a bit easier considering I'm into an anime/game series that uses the word liberally, and tea… AUGH YOU FUCKERS STOP TAINTING MY FAVORITE BEVERAGE EVER /rant I will have to check these CDs out!

            • pica_scribit says:

*sips giant mug of incredibly strong English tea* Tell me about it. I grew up in Port Angeles, WA, about 50 miles from Forks. Twilight ate my hometown. Whenever I go home, I get to see posters and cardboard cutouts of Edward brooding at me from random shop fronts. *shudder*

              • arctic_hare says:

Ew ew ew, you poor thing. D: I am so sorry. (The climate of the Pacific Northwest appeals to me intensely, so I am sad that she tainted it forever.)

                • pica_scribit says:

I'm trying really hard to be as optimistic as I can about it, so I try to believe that the Twlight phenomenon is just a flash in the pan, and as soon as the last movie has come and gone, a lot of the hype will evaporate and it will be largely forgotten. I just don't think it has that kind of staying power.

              • Marie says:

Port Angeles! I live just across the water in Victoria! If I walked down to the water I could probably see the lights from you city! (I'm … not quite sure why that is so exiting to me, it just is. I mean, you said you don't even live there anymore, but same corner of the world meets Mark Reads Harry Potter, two world collide, etc. I guess?)

                • pica_scribit says:

My parents still live in PA, and I just moved back to Seattle, so I'm in the area. I used to go to Victoria every year for my birthday, and every Boxing Day. My favourite places in Victoria: The Royal BC Museum, the Empress Hotel (first went to high tea there when I was about nine), and the Turntable in Fan Tan Alley. I need to find an excuse to visit again.

          • hassibah says:

Wait who bastardized tea? They will pay!

      • Amanda says:

I knew I'd seen that statue before! I have that Nightwish CD. And I *love* it

    • Openattheclose says:

OMG it's like it's looking at the body buried in there!!! Ackckk!!!!

    • bookling says:

Dude, if you Google image search "weeping angel" about half the results are different shot of this angel. I also once posted on my LiveJournal when I was 15 or so that this was my favorite picture (or rather, a more artsy shot of this same statue). I was going through a Sally Sparrow "sad is happy for deep people" phase.

    • pica_scribit says:

Oh, here's the origin of it:
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angel_of_Grief

I was interested to see that there's one in Cardiff. I wonder if that's where Stephen Moffat got the idea?

    • GoddessMER says:

      AAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

    • hassibah says:

God, who is the lady that made a career out of photographing graveyard statues like this? Goths love her. This is going to drive me mad, I used to know this.

  20. flamingpie says:

    http://www.amazon.com/Guardian-Cemeteries-Their-S

they sell this at my school store. WHO THINKS I SHOULD BUY IT?

    • arctic_hare says:

      • flamingpie says:

        http://www.starstills.com/products/Weeping-Angel-

        I want this.

So I can keep it in my closet or something, and then occasionally ask people to fetch me stuff from in there.

also the product description cracks me up. mainly:

"Cardboard cutouts have traditionally lined shop windows and the cinema foyer for years, but now you too can decorate your own home, office, child`s bedroom or party venue with your favourite, movie, music or TV stars!"

        • arctic_hare says:

          oh my stars and garters

that would make my LIFE to do that to someone <3 <3 <3

          DO WANT~

          • flamingpie says:

The funnest thing would be to take it to public places like bathrooms and hide it in a stall, then nonchalantly wait outside and film people's reactions.

  21. Matt says:

So with four words (only one of which isn't made-up), Moffat has managed to deal with every paradox, every continuity error, every retcon, every inconsistency, every contradiction and every confusion in the LAST 45 YEARS.

Oh, and if you think the plot in this 45 minute episode is weapons-grade noodle-melting-fuel, just wait until you see what he can do with an ENTIRE 13 EPISODE SERIES.

  22. valely199 says:

So I gotta ask… did y'all buy out all of the AWESOME "The angels have the phonebox" shirt on amazon? Ha ha ha there was a really neat one available last night and today it's gone ^_^ I credit Mark Watches!

    • MowerOfLorn says:

Lol, it would be so awesome if it was us. I do need to track down a shirt that says that. (But for now, I'll just be happy with the one that says 'Wibbly Wobbly, Timey-Wimey'.)

Another thing that does be noticeable with the New Balance 993 is the springy effect which it has. Every stride feels like a spread of energy in which you squeeze pressure. It starts through the heel, would go to the midsole and in the end ends up in the forefoot in which you get great responsiveness
