Welcome to the (new) future of Mark Watches!

That’s right. TWO SITES. RUNNING AT THE SAME TIME.

People had pitched for me to do TV/movie series for review, but I felt that it would have been odd to have them under the Mark Reads banner. So…why not create TWO sites and just run them at the same time? Utter brilliance, amirite?

So allow me to bid you all a warm welcome to this new endeavor and also share my very first “Watches” project: Mark Watches Firefly/Serenity.

We’ll start very shortly with this series after I get things figured out over on the new Mark Reads site, but ideally, this will be running at the same time that the Mark Reads stuff does.

Thank you guys for the support and I am excited for the future!

  1. Samantha says:

So, are there any websites on the internet that I will have access to watch Firefly/Serenity? I would love to follow along, I just don't know where I would watch it from.

  2. Sara says:

OMG SO EXCITE YOU WILL LOVE IT.

  3. Yashi says:

    THIS IS PERFECT BECAUSE
I just started watching this last night :'D
I'm so excited about these sites!!!!

  4. nanceoir says:

@Samantha: If you have a Netflix account, both Firefly the series and Serenity the movie are available for instant streaming.

Actually, come to think of it, Netflix has a ton of great shows and movies available to stream, should Mark ever run out of ideas, which is admittedly rather unlikely. (Hi, Mark! I'm excited for your sites!)

  5. SorrowsSolace says:

Holy crap that is the greatest thing ever! For anyone that wants to get in on the fun and watch it online, try http://www.letmewatchthis,com- All the episodes are there and are uploaded, the sites don't even have those stupid cell phone surveys. Just don't try the divxmovie share sites, they are annoying and harbour viruses. Megavideo is clean and is the best bet

  6. Gretchen says:

I'm so ridiculously pumped about the new sites, Mark – especially the Firefly/Serenity part! (Partly b/c I haven't read the Hunger Games trilogy yet.)

  7. Coda says:

may I be the first to say…YOU ARE NOT PREPARED FOR THE EPICNESS THAT IS FIREFLY. have fun, it goes quickly!

  8. Caitlin says:

OMG! I am beyond excited for this to start! I've been wanting to re-watch Firefly for over a month and have been putting it off so I could follow along. Please start soon!

  9. kourtneyrf says:

I'm so excited to watch these for the first time along with you! My friends have been telling me to watch them for years, so I have high hopes. =D

  10. Lily says:

    I'm so excited for this.
I'm always up for a re-watch of Firefly. It makes me so upset at how soon it was cancelled. Really was a brilliant show. *sigh* Oh well.

/goes and puts on Jayne hat.

  11. Tilja says:

This is one of the watch projects I have pending. I had actually downloaded this series and movie a few weeks before your announcement to start sending you feedback on what to watch so now I'm just waiting for the work to get down to it alongside your reviews.

I also want to make a plea again for you to watch Doctor Who as soon as possible. I saw you utter love of time travel, so in the name of anything that's holy, I can't understand how on earth could you have lived without that series running through your veins since infancy! I recommend not to try to tackle the old series first, it's way too long. It's easier to start at the new series; they explain all the necessary points for any n00b and go right ahead to the goodies from the start. Then, after you've watched the 2005 revival, you can then go to the previous incarnations of the Doctor with understanding and enjoy anything you come across in them (you'll need that, not all the eps and seasons survived the tides of age change). I said in one of my comments yonder Buzznet that I have a special present if you want it. But I won't be handing it over unless you want to have it, so I don't need to feel very pushy about it. 🙂 Just let you know here, it looks safer than in the thousands of comments over there.

I'll be waiting for your post on the date in which I have to start watching this series.

    • xpanasonicyouthx says:

      Doctor Who will happen, 100%.

      • nanceoir says:

Please let me express my omgglee!!! excitement at this. I had a great time watching my brother watch the show for the first time, and I'd love to go through that again.

Also? Having an excuse to (re)rewatch the show is always welcome. 😉

        • xpanasonicyouthx says:

Fantastic! I think logistically I'll start with the new Doctors (number nine is where it starts, yes?) and intersperse it with older episodes that I can find. I'm having trouble locating anything before…2005 or so.

          • crazyravenclaw says:

Nine is where the new series starts, and you can get a lot of the older ones from Netflix, just not necessarily Watch Instantly. I'll try to find you some spoiler-free sites to do some research–the offscreen history of the show is as interesting as what happens onscreen, and knowing the basics of Classic Who is useful, if not necessary, to understand some stuff in New Who, and you'll want to pick and choose which older stuff to watch, because some of it is really great and some is really…not great. I just got into the series last year, so I've been through the whole information avalanche fairly recently. It's a little overwhelming, but it's also overwhelmingly awesome, and I'm sure you'll have plenty of hardcore fans to answer all your questions in the comments.

Um. I promise I'm just as excited about Firefly as I am about Doctor Who. I just really love Doctor Who. And Firefly. It is 4 AM and I should be writing a term paper. I'm going to stop babbling and get off the internet.

        • PJG says:

Im so excited for this! I was a latercomer to MRHP and thoroughly enjoyed the last 7 chapters. Can't wait to see what you do with Firefly/Serenity and Dr. Who. I was late to the party starting those, but LOVED them once I did actually sit and watch them. Caught up with The Doctor somewhere in the middle of #10 and then devoured the backstory with #9 and couldnt wait for the new eps for the last 2 seasons of #10 and now #11.

If I might also suggest two more BBC America series…. Torchwood (which probably with the world of Who would be inevitable) and PRIMEVIL. Or is it Primeval?? Either way… amazing and smart with intriguing stories and reasonable science. And really HOT men. What's not to love? Kind of reminiscent of those early years of X-Files…. you KNOW its "out there" but its such a great "what if" premise it makes it plausible….

          • echinodermata says:

Primeval!! YAY, I love that it's a scifi show that emphasizes biology more than physics/time travel/space travel.

  12. This is going to be so great! I watched Serenity/Firefly a few months ago, after a friend bug me to do it for years… and DAMN I LIKED IT SO MUCH! I'm addicted now, it'll be great to re-watch along with "mark watches" =D

Can't wait for it to start, i'm sure you will enjoy this series a LOT! =)

  13. buyn says:

    Hurrah. Much excitement abounds.

  14. justakid says:

Firefly/Serenity is the perfect start for this! 😀 And yay for Doctor Who next. Maybe this will finally make me finish Season 4 and move on to the next episodes.

  15. Hanah says:

Oh I've been wanting to watch Firefly forEVER! I don't suppose anyone knows of a way to watch them along for those of us living outside the US without access to such lovely sites as Netflix and Hulu? I'd buy the boxset but the poor student lifestyle I'm currently struggling with is a little bit restrictive in terms of splashing out on shiny new DVDs!

But whether I can watch along or not, I can't wait to hear what you tihnk of it! I've only heard good things so far, so it is looking good. 🙂

  16. hassibah says:

Why is Washburne pushed so far back in that promo pic? Poor Wash…

  17. Terra says:

Simon totally has Colbert!eyebrows in that pic. XDDD

  18. affableevil says:

I am so excited for everything ever omg I can’t even wat

  19. Yusra says:

Now, I am obligated to watch Firefly.

  20. SO EXCITED FOR FIREFLY AND NEW SITES! *breaths*

If you have the DVDs, you must make sure to watch all the commentaries and extras and thingies. Now, please excuse me, I have to go and buy The Hunger Games.

  21. howbo15 says:

Oh dear god, I love Nathan Fillion <3

  22. Aimee says:

I just began to watch this, and I finished episode 2. I'm totally gonna wait for you to start so I can watch while you do and read your hilarious commentary. YAY!

  23. Suzie says:

OH MY GOD I LITERALLY SPASMED WHEN I SAW THIS.

Firefly is like one of my favourite things ever. I've watched it so many times I just randomly quote it.
The fact that you are watching it makes my heart happy.
p.s. Nathan Fillion is my favourite person ever

  24. SAS says:

Holy Shit Firefly and Serenity are awesome!

  25. summeriris says:

For the British posters, if you don't have the DVD's check out your local libraries. They usually have a terrific selection of films and TV series to borrow. If not, check you local rentals shops or LoveFilms. Also both Firfly ans Serentiy are quite old now. Check out Asdas, I got Serenity there for a fiver.

  26. No Appeal says:

I am so excited for this! Not just Firefly/Serenity but the Mark Watches site in general!

  27. tylerdurden says:

Mark should watch Legend of the Seeker, that would be hilarious

  28. darth kititus says:

Yay! I have been enjoying Harry Potter, but this is something I'm just watching through myself. So it'll be like I'm watching along with you!

  29. elvyralani says:

I don't know if it was pointed out but Hulu has all the episodes of Firefly last time I checked!

  30. fnoodles says:

sigh. I don't have the time to watch this >_< Heard firefly is really really good

  31. LadyFel says:

Aaaaaaaaa, so happy to be here also 😀

Can't wait for Firefly to kick off.

  32. Ellen says:

OMG Firefly = best TV show since the invention of television shows, EXCITE. >.>
