Intrigued? Then it’s time for Mark to watch Agent Carter.Â

I expected that this show was heading towards a disaster of sorts, but I did not anticipate everything happening in the same episode. Whew, this is bleak. LET’S CHAT.

Sousa

When you look at Sousa’s story in the last couple episodes, it’s clear that he’s going through the worst time ever, y’all. His fianceé broke things off with him, his relationship with Peggy is complicated, and now, Vernon Masters sidles into his life and ruins it. I HATE VERNON SO MUCH. He’s a very straightforward antagonist here, a near-literal manifestation of the evil of white men with power. At times, I don’t find him all that interesting as a character because he’s so simplistic, but I loved that Sousa, well aware that his career was on the line, still stood up to him. Even after Vernon sent a men to his house to kick his ass, he still defied his boss. I HAVE SO MUCH RESPECT FOR HIM, Y’ALL.

Fuck Vernon Masters, for the record. It can’t be said enough times.

Dottie

I agree with Peggy: If anything, Dottie is a survivor, so I don’t think this is the last we’ve seen of her. I also hope that’s the case because I adore seeing her character do pretty much anything. Namely, it’s rewarding to watch her terrify Vernon, and I hope that at some point before this show ends, she’s the one to kill him. LET US ALSO ACKNOWLEDGE HOW SCARY IT IS TO SEE DOTTIE TERRIFIED OF WHITNEY FROST. Good lord, that scene was so intense, and I really do think that Bridget Regan and Wynn Everett should be in a few hundred scenes, thank you.

Inevitability

There’s an entropy built into this story that drives the action. We know Whitney Frost has set a trap for Peggy; we get the sense that Jason Wilkes’s containment device will go wrong; we assume that something bad is going to happen to Ana because she’s left behind. The episode achieves this through little clues and outright foreshadowing. So I knew I was being pushed in this direction, and yet, IT STILL AFFECTED ME. I was nervous once Jason and Ana were all alone in the Stark residence; I was on edge because of where Dottie was being held. Each of these pieces contributed to the whole.

I knew something bad was going to happen, yet I had no idea what it was.

Whitney’s plans are still nebulous at this point, though this episode does provide a slight suggestion as to what it is that she wants to do with her powers: make a world that is better for those who are forgotten and ignored. Which… that’s kind of messy? No, it’s super messy, given that the show is trying to draw a parallel between the plight of women and black men at a time when one of those groups had it significantly worse than the other. In one breath, Whitney insults Jason, then offers up solidarity to him. Understandably, he wants nothing to do with whatever weird plan she has for the universe! Part of that is because she doesn’t know what she’s doing. I at least understood that she wanted Jason specifically so she might better grasp what it is that Zero Matter does.

Otherwise, she’s mostly an agent of chaos. She kidnaps Jason and shoots Ana as a distraction, bringing Jarvis’s job home in a terrifying and tragic way. Again, that was an inevitable plot point, one that was foreshadowed long before this episode. I hope Ana isn’t dead (I sense the show won’t kill her off), but what does this mean for Jarvis? Will he want to be back out in the field, or is this it for him?

Basically, everything is a mess right now, and I wonder if it’ll keep getting worse or if Peggy and her team will get a victory against Whitney soon.

The video for “Monsters” can be downloaded here for $0.99.

Mark Links Stuff

– I am now on Patreon!
