AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Yeah, I still don’t know how all of this fits together, y’all. WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THIS SEASON.

Arvin

What a nightmare, y’all. It seems that Arvin only wanted redemption but through his own means. His dedication to Nadia, though, cancelled out his expressions of regret and contrition. In the end, did he ever care about doing the right thing? Probably not. His view of morality was so limited, so situational, that he was willing to work for the very person the team is trying to take down.Â

Y’all, look at the lengths he is going to for a cure. He’s working for Gordon Dean and he knows it. There’s no mysterious benefactor anymore. (Well, apparently Gordon works for someone else, too, soooooo… great. Another mystery to consume my time!!!) And it’s not like he can deny that what he’s doing is terrible. He is initially tasked with THREATENING THE WOMAN BLOCKING HIS APPOINTMENT TO APO. Like??? 100% bad and terrible and immoral! That’s just the first step, because now he is a spy within the organization, and apparently this is all gonna be worth it if he can find a cure for Nadia. But how is she gonna feel about that cure when she wakes up? When she learns the cost of it?Â

THIS IS GOING TO BE A DISASTER. Arvin deserves whatever is coming for him.Â

The Box

Well, I can’t say that Thomas is all that much more interesting as a character, but at least we get to see him in action this time around. And shit, he’s good under pressure! So… that’s entertaining? He’s still boring on a personal level, and it was even harder to care about him due to what was happening around him.

BECAUSE HOLY SHIT, WHAT ARE PROPHET FIVE DOING??? The reveal of what was in that weird cryogenic box was deeply, deeply satisfying, and I say that while also acknowledging that this opened up multiple new mysteries for me. It was brilliant, first of all, that Renee’s father, Luc, was the man held in suspended animation. (Don’t know if that’s the right term, but you understand what I mean.) There’s an instant emotional component to all the scenes between Luc and Renee, and they’re portrayed beautifully by both actors. It’s an impossible reunion, y’all! This shouldn’t happen, and yet, here’s Renee’s father, who survived all these years by… what? I don’t understand the technology yet, and the twist at the end makes this more confusing. Was Luc actually doubled long ago, and Dr. Desantis aged as Luc? What’s the purpose of that box? What did Gordon’s team stabilize?

Those questions are left unanswered, and it makes this story viciously uncomfortable. Renee was gifted her father twenty-three years after he disappeared, and she put his faith in him. She believed him instantly. That’s contrasted with her reticence to allow Sydney and Thomas to help her. The irony, of course, is that they actually did have her best interests in mind! By the end of “Out of the Box,” Sydney’s proven herself, but that doesn’t negate that Renee paid a price for trusting her “father.” At the very least, she’s gained an ally in Sydney and the CIA at large, despite that she’s still one the FBI’s Most Wanted. (And I’m curious if we’re going to get a backstory on that. Is she really just a ruthless assassin, or is there something more to it?) I’m guessing that Renee’s going to play a much larger role in exposing Prophet Five’s real agenda. I still don’t have a theory to piece it all together, by the way. So, they have doubling technology? And There’s something important to the genetic research he did?
